€ on the Brink a 2nd Time

Varoufakis here sets out with a time lapse delay of a quarter of a century the basic contradictions of a one size fits all of the Euro for differing economies of the Eurozone which led to the economic collapse of Greece whilst a member state. At the centre of it all as a Finance Minister of Syriza he did everything in his power to maintain the Euro at all costs to the detriment of his nation. One could say better late than never but in his specific case he only states things with a hidden agenda.

Now like a modern day Cassandra he asserts it was structurally flawed as you can't have monetary union without fiscal union and the break up of the Euro is inevitable as countries cannot develop in the absence of a Federal model of integrated states at the same time as there are countries still with a national currencies eg Poland Hungary Czechlands (Bulgaria joining the €) and divergent economies from the core to the periphery eg France & Germany vis a vis Italy & Greece.

Without economic growth the EU will not be able to sustain its commitments to Ukraine & NATO rearmament. Its de-industrialising faster than is imaginable and capital flight is once again occurring. Youth unemployment remains astronomic for a whole generation and this time round they may not be able to do whatever it takes as Draghi stated to keep Italy afloat, Germany cut off from Russian energy and EU agriculture from Ukrainian fertilisers.

The Americans have hinted that the EU needs to break apart and as they created it, this might be what is currently on the cards in the medium term...
